CORE ASSIGNMENTS (10%) Music vocabulary quizzes and various assignments will be administered
quarterly . The music core assignments are designed to expand students' knowledge of music beyond the action of just
playing their instrument. Example assignments are music history, key signatures, composers, etc.
LESSONS (60%)
Every student is required to attend one twenty-minute lesson a week. An assignment will be assigned for each lesson and
will be graded. If a student is absent from a lesson, he/she will be expected to make that lesson up within one week. If
the student fails to make up the lesson in that time, he/she will receive an "F" for that lesson. "Free Lesson
Coupoons" will be distributed each quarter, which may be redeemed anytime during the quarter with no questions asked.
If the "Free Lesson Coupon" is not used during the quarter, it may be used to add an extra point toward the student's
letter (this can only happen if the student has NO unexcused lessons).
PERFORMANCES
Students are expected to attend ALL required music events during the school year. Required performances are concerts,
contests, parades, half-time show, and pep band. If a student is absent from a concert, contest, parade, or half-time show,
the overall grade will be lowered three letter grades (this can not be made up). For example: if a student's grade was an
"A", the grade would be lowered to a "D". If a student is absent from a pep band performance, the overall
quarter grade will be lowered one full grade. Excused absences are sickness or family business. If a student has to be absent
froma lperformance for sickness or family business, please have a parent/guardian notify the teacher ahead of time. YOU ARE
NOW IN HIGH SCHOOL. STUDENTS AND PARENTS NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND CHECK THE CALENDAR IN ADVANCE SO YOUCAN BE PRESENT AT
ALL MUSIC EVENTS. Your absence from a performance causes a chain reaction throughout the band and affects the performance's
outcome. It is EXTREMELY important you are present!
